An appraisal planner
He maramataka aromihi

This planner supports teachers and school leaders to design and document their appraisal processes in relation to their Māori students and in line with the principles of appraisal for learning.
It is one example of how planning for appraisal might be approached. Leaders and teachers should feel free to adapt it or to draw on parts of it to devise their own planning templates that better reflect their schools’ circumstances.
The planner is available as a Word document and as a downloadable PDF.

Like this website’s self-review tool, the planner addresses each of the elements of appraisal that New Zealand schools typically work through, while including prompts and support for users.
The sequence in which leaders and teachers work through the elements will vary, and several may be revisited during the year. For example, an observation may signal the need to revise an appraisal goal, or a self-appraisal may prompt changes to planned professional learning.
You can use the planner to:
- set goals and plan professional learning activities and classroom observations
- document progress in meeting goals and the results of self-appraisal and appraisal discussions
- keep year-by-year reports and records of individual teachers’ appraisals.
